Starting school is an important and exciting milestone for both children and their families.
The Hall admits approximately 60 boys into Reception each September. Playdate assessments for these places take place during January and February in the year of entry.

Register for 4+ Entry
By registering, you are formally applying for a place in Reception and your son will be invited to participate in the 4+ assessment process. Registration closes in November prior to the January/February playdate assessments. We encourage families to register as early as possible.
What Happens Next?
- Acknowledgement Email
Upon completing our online registration form, you will receive an automatic email outlining the next steps. A confirmation of the £180 registration payment will be requested at this stage.
- Invitation to School Open Event
If you have not already visited the school, you will be invited to attend our next open event to learn more about life at The Hall. Alternatively, you are warmly invited to book a personal tour to see the school in action.
- Next Steps Tour (November)
All families who have registered will be invited to our dedicated 4+ “Next Steps” Open Event in November. This is an opportunity to explore the Junior School in more depth, meet the Early Years team, and ask any questions about the admissions process and forthcoming playdate assessment.
- Playdate Assessment (January/February before entry)
All eligible applicants are invited to take part in the 4+ assessment process on select dates in January/February before the year of entry. These 45-minute playdate sessions are held in the Junior School in groups of approximately eight. The school has its own assessment procedures and criteria, assessing a boy’s natural aptitude and potential to thrive at The Hall.
- Outcome of Application
After assessments are completed, families are informed of the outcome and offers for Reception places are issued. All offer holders will be invited to an Offer Holders Event.
How to Register
- Complete the online Registration Form.
- Check for your acknowledgement email (from l.naylor@hallschool.co.uk — please kindly check your junk folder)
- Submit your £180 non‑refundable registration fee (inclusive of VAT).
- Email us a copy of your son’s birth certificate and confirmation of the registration payment. Please note that applications cannot be processed without both the fee and birth certificate.

The fee for a Reception‑year application is £180 (non‑refundable). Please use your son’s full name as the payment reference so we can match the payment with your form.
