From time to time, places at The Hall become available outside our main Reception (4+) entry point, across other year groups from Year 1 to Year 8. These opportunities usually arise as a result of family relocations or where a boy moves on to another school.
When this happens, we contact families on our Occasional Places Register, which includes boys previously assessed for 4+ and placed on the Waiting List, as well as families registering interest for a later point of entry.
4+ Waiting List
At the start of each September, boys who were assessed for a 4+ place but were not offered entry into Reception — and were instead placed on the Waiting List — are automatically transferred to the Occasional Places Register.
Their details remain on the register for as long as the family wishes to stay under consideration. When places become available in future year groups, families on this register will be contacted and, where appropriate, invited for assessment.
Registering for an Occasional Place
Families who did not apply for Reception (4+) entry, but who would like their son to be considered for a place at The Hall in another year group, are invited to complete the Occasional Places Registration Form. A non‑refundable administration fee of £180 (inclusive of VAT) applies.
Assessment for an Occasional Place
When an occasional place becomes available, boys will be invited to attend an age‑appropriate assessment. The nature of the assessment will depend on your son’s age and year of entry. It is designed to help us understand whether The Hall would be the right setting for him to settle happily and thrive, both academically and pastorally. Our Registrar will be pleased to discuss the assessment process in more detail and answer any questions you may have.
Staying in Contact
Our Registrar will check in periodically to confirm that you wish to remain on the Occasional Places Register. As all communication takes place via email and telephone, we kindly ask that families keep the Registrar informed of any changes to their contact details, to ensure you can be reached should a place become available.
