South Africa Music Tour Day 7

Robben Island was the first focus of today; we arrived after a short sea crossing at the windswept site where a former political prisoner guided us around the desolate quarry and prison blocks which had held so many men captive during apartheid, including Nelson Mandela for over 27 years. Then it was off to Cape Town’s unique Water Front venue for a concert to an audience gathered outdoors in the sunshine against the backdrop of Table Mountain. It was a unique concert in many ways, challenging for our young musicians not least in that a live cricket match was screened onto the backdrop throughout, as well as the sheet music blowing away in the gusty wind! But undaunted, the students produced a happy last concert that was heartily appreciated by the audience… before setting off for a final evening barbeque at Middelvlei Wine Farm in Stellenbosch for some delicious food and lots of singing.
