At The Hall we take our responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children seriously. This necessitates not only the development and annual review of our Safeguarding Policy (including Safer Recruitment and Staff Code of Conduct policies) but also its implementation and practice as we endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.
We operate within a culture of openness, welcoming input from pupils, staff, parents and external agencies and recognising and accepting that abuse can happen in any organisation. Always considering the best interests of the child, we are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, and we follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice.

What is Operation Encompass?
The Hall School is part of Operation Encompass, a national safeguarding partnership between schools and police forces. The programme helps schools provide support to children who may have been exposed to domestic abuse.

How it works
When the police attend a domestic abuse incident where a child is part of the household, they will notify the school before the start of the next school day.
This information is shared securely with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) so that appropriate care and support can be provided to the child during the school day if needed.
Confidentiality
Any information received through Operation Encompass is treated in strict confidence and handled in line with the school’s safeguarding and child protection procedures. Information is only shared with staff members who need to know in order to support the child.

Operation Encompass forms part of The Hall School’s commitment to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of every pupil. By working closely with local police, we are able to respond quickly and sensitively when a child may need additional understanding or support.
